Pastor Ron Hampton and the NE Washington, DC, church-planting project New Vision Community Church partnered with several East Coast Free Methodists to meet the Kenilworth/Parkside community through Pastor Hampton’s Takin it to the Streets outreach ministry on June 16, 2012 in Kenilworth Park.
Partners included Dave Harvey, superintendent of the Acts 12:24 Conference; Yvonne Roller, wife of Bishop David Roller, who brought a friend from Baltimore, Md.; Ironia FMC [Randolph, N.J.] Pastor Stephen Reyner and his wife, Cindy, who brought a U-Haul truck of furniture they collected over the last year; Paul Shaver and family from Staunton, Va.; Pastor Ken Platt and a group from Wallenpaupack FMC [Hawley, Pa.], including the church band Bridging Division, who drove their new van on its first inner-city missionary assignment; Pastor Michael and Lara Dickman and members of New Hope Community Church [Mt. Pleasant, Pa.]; Pastor Kenny Martin of New Vision Fellowship Church [Forestville, Md.], who gave tremendous support in this effort; and Pastor Will Stroman of the Assemblies of God’s Urban Outreach Ministries, who brought a group from Michigan to support the community outreach.
It was an amazing day of service to the community by giving to those that need most. The support of our friends made the day even more special. Urban outreach is a serious area to address when it comes to the mission of the church, and it was a privilege to serve and be a blessing to this underserved community.
