Cedarcrest Church in Bloomington, Minn., recently received some local attention on KSTP Channel 5 news for our Food in the Hood program that provides approximately two weeks’ worth of groceries to more than 1,500 people each month in partnership with Good in the ‘Hood and Union Gospel Mission.
Our mission is to “Feed Bodies and To Feed Souls” and with this in mind we offer free groceries and hot meals to the residents of our community as a practical expression of the love of God. In addition, we provide many of our guests with an opportunity to give back through volunteerism. This, combined with our trained team of lay ministers, has enabled us to both “activate” and effectively “integrate” new community members into our church fellowship and outreach programs. Finally, we provide more than 3,000 Thanksgiving baskets, onsite hot meals and Christmas gift support for families in need during the holidays. It’s a wonderful way to impact lives with a personal touch, and it opens up hearts for us to effectively ministry the good news of Jesus Christ to the hurting and needy of our community.
