Friday night, December 16, a flash flood hit the city of Cagayan de Oro (pop. 500,000) in Northern Mindanao, Philippines. Eight inches of rain came within 12 hours and released muddy waters that rose to over five feet while people were sleeping. News reports indicate that more than 700 have lost their lives and many are missing. The Balulan FM church was hit hard, as well as many of the members of the community. Bishop Jim Tuan immediately went to the area and is assessing what needs to be done in relief for members and the community. The Bishop’s Crisis Response Fund will be providing assistance.
