After more than 18 years of service to Free Methodist World Missions (FMWM) as Asia area director and many more as a missionary, David Yardy will changing roles. Yardy will become the FMWM liason to India and will also serve as a cross-cultural consultant to FMWM missionaries.
The Board of Bishops is pleased to announce Steve Evoy will replace Yardy as Asia area director on April 1, 2013. Evoy currently serves as senior pastor of Wolverine Free Methodist Church in the East Michigan Conference. Evoy isn’t a stranger to foreign service or the FMWM family after spending many of his formative years as the son of Free Methodist missionaries to Asia, Gordon and Martha Evoy. Steve and his wife, Jenny, have two daughters: Jade, 7, and Lily, 5.
Evoy has traveled broadly throughout Asia and is conversant in at least one of the languages. He has also worked tirelessly in the initiation and building of the Free Methodist Church in Nepal over the last 13 years while stationed as a pastor in Michigan. Evoy brings significant vision, creativity and cultural knowledge to the position.
Bishop Matthew Thomas is very grateful for Yardy’s service and is excited about where the church in Asia is heading. “[Yardy] has blessed the church with great leadership,” he said. “The vision has been strong, and the church in Asia is very mature with steady expansion.”
